Room within a Room is a place where grief and joy can coexist. It is a space where people can come together around a large table, enjoy each other’s company, or retreat into the Room within a Room. It is a place for community and mutual support—whether over a coffee, a game, reading a book, or attending a workshop.
The former mortuary hall at the Trinitatisfriedhof has long been out of use. What will the cemetery of the future look like? Can grief and joy exist together in one place? What would that look like?
We explored these questions. Our goal was to create a space where one can be alone without feeling lonely—a place where mourning is possible, but where one can also look forward and experience joy.
